AG-Innova
The lab where we can speed up your projects, shape your ideas
Rapid screening, reliable data, tailored innovation. All in one experimental ecosystem.
laboratory screening
From formulation prototypes testing to validating assumptions, via a tailored service
For many of our projects we provide our in-house laboratory. This is where we do applied innovation, with analysis, tests e research.
Having an in-house laboratory allows you to: shorten time, increase control and guarantee of the result, have a more complete and personalized service, from the initial formulation/dosing choice to the field testing phases.
Guarantee of results
By operating under controlled conditions, with artificial inocula and healthy, untreated plant material, we ensure reliable results while minimizing external (biotic and abiotic) variables.
Resource optimization
With more initial data on product, dose and application time, field trials are better set up, saving resources in terms of time and budget.
Year-round efficiency
Maximum flexibility because tests can be scheduled throughout the year.
Entomology and parasitology
Insects and Pests for Agriculture
We do experimentation and research on phytophagous and pest insects, entomophages and pollinators, to reliably perform tests of efficacy, biocontrol and selectivity.
- Testing in temperature- and humidity-controlled environments
- Protocols that ensure quality
- IRAC methods
Phytophagous insects develop at the expense of plant organisms and can cause serious damage to agricultural crops.
Our work focuses on the most damaging species, which we breed and study under optimal conditions.

Spodoptera littoralis
Cotton leaf worm

Tuta absoluta (susceptible and resistant populations)
South American pinworm (Tomato pinworm)

Bemisia tabaci (susceptible and resistant populations)

Beneficial organisms involved in biological control and pollination.
Given the growing importance of biodiversity protection, we perform selectivity testing on:
Pollinators
(Bees, Bumblebees, etc.)
Natural Enemies
(Predators and Parasitoids)
Possible tests.: Selectivity, Choice test, Side effects (Evaluation of the effects of sublethal doses of a substance on the biology of a non-target organism)
Non-target insects used for scientific purposes.
Hermetia illucens
(Black Soldier fly)
Used in the FIT-BASS project, for the production of protein meal for aquaculture. We also perform tests on other organisms besides insects, such as:
Phytophagous mites
(e.g. Tetranychidae and Eriophidae)
Arachnid parasites that feed by sucking plant sap
Varroa destructor
Ectoparassita delle api mellifere
Slugs and Snails
Molluschi che causano danni significativi negli orti e nei tappeti erbosi.
Phytopathology and diagnostics
Plant pathogens
Collection of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria, which we use to test plant protection products in the laboratory, semi-field and as an artificial inoculum source in the open field.
With these certified strains, we can perform reliable, repeatable and controlled tests, ensuring a uniform distribution of the pathogen for scientifically valid results.
- Reliable and repeatable testing
- Identified and certified strains
- Uniform distribution of the pathogen

Nematological Laboratory
Nematodes: soil pests
Nematological laboratory specializing in nematode breeding to perform targeted tests in vitro and in semi-field. We simulate real or fully controlled conditions and accurately evaluate the efficacy of products against these phytopathogenic nematodes. In addition, to support the tests, we are able to quantify the nematic charge present in a soil sample.
Possible tests: Efficacy test, Knock-down test, Persistence, Semi-field, Mixing test.
- Faster availability of data
- In vitro and semi-field tests
- Focus on test efficacy and repeatability
- Breeding and inoculation
Phenotyping system
Assess plant behavior in real time
Agrigeos is the first center in Italy with 144 active units
PlantArray® is a phenotyping system for analyzing how plants respond to various environmental factors, including biotic and abiotic stresses (telluric pathogens, nematodes, drought, salinity, etc.), as well as to the application of fertilizers, biostimulants, or agrochemicals.
Using gravimetric measurements and precision sensors, PlantArray® quickly provides accurate data on plant growth, transpiration, stomatal conductance, and water use efficiency.
Main advantages:
- Rapid, high-resolution screening: continuous and simultaneous monitoring of numerous plants, with reproducible and noninvasive data.
- Real-time analysis: through SPAC Analytics software, treatments can be customized and physiological responses can be interpreted as the experiment unfolds.
